In the Shadow of Vesuvius...

we live here - via cappucchini
Our real adventure has begun with our trip to Sorrento ... or is it San Agnello??  Oh well, they are pretty close ...  In our usual fashion we went for a walk to explore the area (let's just see what's around the corner...) and ended up down the coast in Sorrento - the area's answer to Double Bay/Noosa.  We are staying ( a little unexpectedly) in San Agnello, 15 minutes walk outside Sorrento.  It's a bit more real so we are quite pleased.  Sorrento is really pretty, especially at night dressed up for Christmas.

where's joey?

Today's adventure was a loooong one - 7 hours of exploring the ruins caused by Vesuvius - Herculanum followed by Pompeii.  The creepiest part was viewing the cast of a victim by very low light in a dark room as the sun set... Both sites were incredible and eventually overwhelming.  We might need to watch the appropriate Dr Who episode now!

Capri and parts south tomorrow if our feet are still attached.  We are also continuing our research into our coffee options, but have given in to our natural reluctance and accepted that our drink of choice is actually called Caffe Americano.  Oh dear how embarrassing.  We are trying to substitute macciattos instead for authenticity.

more soon...

  4. Hi J&J, Keren here. Can you send me an invitation to kerencw@gmail.com? Otherwise I have to pretend I'm James all the time. And my voice gets tired if I have to keep sounding like a bass.

Glad you're having such a good time. Thanks for keeping our letter box warm.
